最近这个概念很火——

facebook改名Meta迎接元宇宙,抖音的元宇宙up主「柳夜熙」凭借两个视频收获了200万粉丝,甚至罗永浩老师都提到了,自己下一个创业项目将会是元宇宙……


那么问题就来了——


元宇宙到底是什么?

后续它会怎么发展?最终形态是怎样的?

为什么说目前元宇宙最大的风险是政策风险?

为什么我们说它有可能会毁了这个世界?

我们有办法避免它对人类的摧毁吗?

这篇文章会回答上面的这些问题,希望可以升级你对世界的认知,辅助你更好地预测人类社会的发展趋势,找到在后续每个阶段最关键的技术与应用。

先来看看第一个问题:元宇宙是什么?

「元宇宙」这个概念来自科幻小说《雪崩》,简单来说就是一个虚拟世界。

在这个世界里头,用户可以连接万物,并且可以做到很多物理世界里无法实现的操作。

在科幻作品里头,元宇宙会更丰富一些: 比如像《头号玩家》里头那样,使用VR眼镜来与其他个体互动——

不过,元宇宙并不会单单停留在「炒作」层面上,它有极强的可拓展性。

未来的元宇宙,可能是像电影《超能查派》或《超验骇客》一样,我们可以把自己的意识上传到网络上,到时我们可以脱离肉身完全生活在元宇宙里。

大家听到这么赛博朋克的概念通常会特别兴奋,但我想把大家稍微往现实拉回来一些:

因为再往后推演了几步后我们发现,等发展到第4阶段,元宇宙很可能会让人类固步自封,甚至有可能毁了这个世界。

接下来我们可以一起来看看后续元宇宙的发展推演。

目前看来,我们还处于第一阶段——

阶段 1

虚拟元宇宙 ️

元宇宙其实是在复刻人类在现实世界的感官感受。

最早因为设备的限制 (只有电脑和手机) ,所以我们只能复刻一部分视觉和听觉的体验。

像是我以前详细介绍过的游戏 ,在那个元宇宙里一切皆有可能:玩家可以开银行、炒地皮、开会……这个游戏甚至还成功地预言了2008年的金融危机,感兴趣的可以翻看我之前的文章。

德国华人玩家Chung Anshe在现实生活中是个老师,在游戏中却靠着炒卖地皮赚了上百万美金,其虚拟形象甚至登上了《财富》和《商业周刊》杂志的封面。

还有后来流行的Roblox、我的世界、摩尔庄园、动森等等……

就像前面说的,所有角色扮演类游戏都可以说是「元宇宙」的前身。

而这几年,技术的发展让我们可以更好地复刻现实世界的体验——


基于上面提到的这些技术,我们可以更快地接收、处理、传输、输出感官信息。

我们来重点说一下负责信息输出的VR终端,它们的作用是复刻五感的体验——

目前我们对视觉和听觉的模拟已经相对成熟了。

触觉方面,目前有类似《头号玩家》里头的全身触觉体验套件Teslasuit,可以通过电流刺激来模拟触觉。

嗅觉方面,有个叫OhRoma的产品可以模拟战争中的硝烟味、僵尸扑过来时的腐烂味、女生靠近时的体香 (其实…这个产品是色情网站设计的) 等等。

随着化学和材料学等学科的发展,理论上未来也可以合成相应的气体固体,模拟更多嗅觉体验,甚至味觉。

到时候,我们会进入一个几乎可以复原现实世界一切感官体验的元宇宙。

不过,毕竟一切只是「模拟」,还是很难完美复刻所有感官体验。

这时候,我们会尝试进入「阶段2」。

阶段 2

脑接元宇宙

之前我在科普 的时候就提到过「缸中之脑」实验。

人类的感受其实都是大脑的「骗局」:而既然大脑信号都是电信号,我们完全可以把大脑信号转化为计算机可以读懂的语言,反过来也可以把计算机信号转化为大脑可以感知的电信号。

这样我们靠一段代码,就可以模拟吃饭的感受。

像是马斯克这几年在研究的脑机接口技术,就在努力攻克这些课题。

随着技术发展,未来我们或许完全不需要通过VR眼镜等外接设备,也可以直接通过电信号完美复刻现实世界带来的感官体验。

不过呢,还是有问题存在:我们的吃喝拉撒还是得在现实世界完成,人类无法跟现实世界完全脱节。

一种解决方案是类似电影《黑客帝国》的场景:所有人类的肉体被妥善保存,通过营养液维持生命机能——

这背后也有「两颗药丸」的伦理问题:「真实」到底重不重要?

Anyway,即使伦理问题解决了,所有人都愿意选择在元宇宙里生活和工作了,仍然有问题无法解决:衰老与死亡。

这时候,人类会尝试进入下一个阶段的元宇宙——

阶段 3

意识元宇宙

随着全脑仿真技术与人工智能技术的发展,未来如果我们可以像《超能查派》或《超验骇客》一样,直接把人类意识上载到服务器上,同时让意识具备自我计算机能,那么我们可以脱离肉身完全活在元宇宙里,彻底地进化为硅基生物。

而且我们的意识还可以无限复制,传到全世界的各个服务器上。

这个哲学上的讨论很多,今天就不展开了。

Anyway,假设意识本身都是「我」,那么在意识可以备份的前提下,只要不存在全球性灾难事件引发全网断网、数据库全毁这样的极端情形,理论上我们都可以实现「永生」。

不过这时候还是有问题:人们会变得不再快乐。

这一点可能有点违反直觉,我来解释解释——

大家之所以喜欢元宇宙的概念,是因为它能摆脱现实世界的诸多限制。

比如空间限制,我们可以在元宇宙里实现瞬间移动。

我们也可以脱离时间限制,很多动作可以有即时反馈,压根都不需要等待。

如果我们的意识可以上传到元宇宙,我们甚至可以通过提高计算速度,来改变我们对时间流逝的感知——就像刘慈欣在长篇处女作《中国2185》里头所描述的,「虚拟人类」在两个小时里度过了600年的演化。

还有就是规律限制——在元宇宙里我们能做到很多违背物理学生物学规律的事情,比如你可以飞可以漂浮,就算被车撞了被剑刺了也不会真正意义上的「死亡」。

而更重要的,在元宇宙里,理论上你也没有资源限制——

你可以拥有无限多的资源,你可以拥有无数套房、无数辆豪车、无数个名牌包包……

只要计算资源允许,甚至每个人都可以拥有自己的元宇宙,成为自己宇宙的「神」。

那么问题就来了——

既然几乎没有限制,为啥还会「不再快乐」呢?

这是因为,快乐的来源,在于「预期差」。

几乎什么都做得到,要什么就有什么,你就不会有「求之而不得」的感觉。

就算你得到了一切,都会觉得这是理所当然的。

而且意识被上载还有一个后果:我们的计算速度和准确性变强了,出现「意外」的概率很小。

换句话说,我们的「预期」变得极其准确,这也是导致没有预期差的原因。

意识到这一点的人会开始进入下一个阶段——

阶段 4

孪生元宇宙

为了制造预期差,我们会开始某种程度的自我设限,复刻真实世界中的各种规律:物理学、经济学…创造出一个现实世界的镜像,也就是我们经常会听到的「数字孪生」。

最简单的做法是加入随机数。

就像玩游戏抽道具,把把欧皇并不会让人沉迷,有了随机变量自然会有意外,会有预期差。

当然,我们也可以自我设限,让资源不再无限 (不过这也失去了元宇宙的大部分魅力) 。

比如说,我们可以利用我以前科普过的 ,让元宇宙里头的虚拟物品具备稀缺属性。

这么做,本质上就是让资源不再可以随随便便地无限复制,那么现实世界中的经济规律也可以在元宇宙里头被复刻。

当然,这些手段其实在更早的阶段就会开始发生,像是NFT在这几年就被热炒过几波。

不过在这个阶段还是有两个致命的问题,这两个问题甚至有可能让人类不再拥有创造力。

第一个问题是时间资源无法受限。

上载意识后,人类实现了「永生」。

虽然我们会自我设限,让经济规律重现,但我们不大可能会让时间资源被压缩。

毕竟从伦理道德来看,剥夺一个人的剩余时间,相当于主动「杀死」他。

一旦人类拥有近乎无限的生命,他们会做什么?

奈飞《爱死机》第二季的《Pop Squad》 (人口警察) 给出了答案——人类将会丧失创新意愿。

剧集里的一个女性角色,她是个歌手,过去20年一直在磨炼某一段独唱。

因为她拥有了无限的时间,已经试错了足够多次,「从0到1」甚至「从1到100」都搭好了,所以会把更多的精力放在「从100到101」的层面。

顺带一提,这时候「繁衍后代」也会变得没那么重要,你甚至可以跟NPC (人工智能) 生下后代,但很可能只是为了体验当父母的乐趣。

Anyway,人类创新的步伐确实会因此放缓。

当然你也可以说,虽然是放缓,但还是在进步的;而且时间资源近乎无限,那长远来看,人类还是在发展的。

这时候我们还会面对另一个问题——信息茧房。

人类知识的发展,要有信息的输入才能有智慧的输出。

而在元宇宙里头,信息的输入源会被局限在元宇宙 (外加地球) 本身,这会限制人类知识边界的拓展,会形成一个信息茧房。

当然,自我演化本身也可以有输出:因为我们对原始数据的处理会得到新的信息,会产生新的认知与洞见。

但这些都只是人类自身活动而产生的信息。

更可怕的是,一旦算力足够多,每个人都可以在意识里加载所有人类已知的知识,那么每个个体的输入相同、处理机制也相同 (因为处理机制由输入的信息决定) ,这样每个个体的输出也会相同。

这会诞生很多科幻小说里提到的「统一意识体」。

多样性的美将不复存在。

那么问题来了——如何破局呢?

人类在彻底理解了元宇宙与地球之后,还是有拓展知识边界的需求的。

这时候,我们需要打破信息茧房,从地球外部去找输入。

就像我在新加坡的ArtScience Musuem (艺术科学博物馆) 里头看到的这么一句话——

翻译过来就是「科学是宇宙想告知人类的,而艺术则是人类想告知宇宙的。」

所以过往一直有所谓「飞船派」和「元宇宙派」的争论——

到底人类的未来,是走向外星殖民?还是成为地下运转的服务器?

如果是后者,那么一个流星过来,人类很可能会就此湮灭。

这是包括刘慈欣老师在内的诸多科幻小说家、未来学家所担心的;也是我开头提到的「元宇宙可能会毁掉这个世界」的底层逻辑。

无独有偶,人类登月的第二人Buzz Aldrin也吐槽过:「你承诺过给我们火星殖民,现在我得到的却只有Facebook。」

那么问题就来了——

你到底会选择加入「飞船派」呢?还是「元宇宙派」呢?

最后我想说,这两个派别其实并不矛盾。

这就像是投资和消费的关系一样。

像费雪说的,「投资是时间维度上的平衡消费」,或者说,投资其实就是未来的消费。

一样的,「飞船派」是在拓宽信息源,而「元宇宙派」则是在更好地利用和处理现有的信息。

两者并不矛盾,可以两者兼有。

只是,我们不能把所有的钱都花在消费上,还是该拿出一部分来投资。
